Method to Evaluate Remaining Prestress in Damaged Prestressed Bridge Girders

In assessing damage to a prestressed bridge girder, it is often necessary to determine the prestress remaining in the strands. An instrument developed as part of this report applies a lateral load to an exposed strand and measures the resulting displacement. Testing was performed to calibrate the instrument and check its precision and accuracy. Comparisons were made to existing devices.
