This was presented to a faculty member who has excelled in teaching and has demonstrated exceptional motivation of students in the classroom. Dr. Salamone was recognized at the annual Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering Spring Student Banquet in April, 2019.

Tricia Clayton recently received the Ervin S. Perry Student Appreciation Award. This was presented to a faculty member who best meets the ideals of an excellent teacher and a good friend. Apostolos Athansiou received the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award. This was presented to a teaching assistant who has shown exemplary dedication and motivation in their teaching. Dr. Salvatore Salamone has recently been awarded a USDOT grant for his pipeline safety research. The grant will help fund graduate student researchers so that the team can perform in-depth studies and experiments to develop a state-of-the-art structural health monitoring system for pipeline corrosion inspection.
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) awarded the grant for Salamone’s research on pipeline corrosion, which could help prevent environmental disasters such as oil spills. Overall, PHMSA awarded a total of $3.8 million to 11 universities as part of its Competitive Academic Agreement Program (CAAP) for pipeline safety research and innovation.

Mike Engelhardt was selected to receive the 2018 Joe J. King Engineering Achievement Award from the Cockrell School of Engineering. The award recognizes a faculty member who has made significant contributions in furthering the profession of engineering. Mike is honored for his continued service to the structural engineering profession and his influence on the structural steel design, construction and academic communities.
Mr. Joe J. King, ME 1925, established the Joe J. King Professional Engineering Achievement Award in 1976 out of deep respect for engineering education and the profession, and love for his alma mater.

Trevor Hrynyk and co-author Frank Vecchio have been selected by the Structural Engineering Institute to receive the 2018 Raymond C. Reese Research Prize awarded by the American Society of Civil Engineering for their paper titled “Modeling of Steel-Concrete Composite Elements under In-Plane and Out-of-Plane Loads” and published in the ASCE Journal of Structural Engineering in October 2016. The Raymond C. Reese Research Prize is awarded to the author or authors of a paper in a print issue of an ASCE journal that describes a notable achievement in research related to structural engineering and indicates how the research can be used.

Dr. Tricia Clayton received the Dean’s Award for Outstanding Engineering Teaching by an Assistant Professor. Tricia’s selection was based on demonstrated excellence in teaching, and departmental nominations that were reviewed by a committee of CSE faculty members and student leaders. FSEL would like to congratulate Dr. Tricia Clayton for being selected for the American Institute of Steel Construction’s (AISC’s) Early Career Faculty Award. This award was initiated by AISC to provide recognition to individuals who demonstrate promise in the areas of structural steel research, teaching and other contributions to the structural steel industry. Tricia will receive her award at NASCC, The Steel Conference, in San Antonio in March 2017.
